Fossy Lower 6 kms./ 2 hours

(Forest & Road Walk)


A low level circuit up into the woods on Fossy Mountain. Suitable for families but rough underfoot for a short distance.

A. Follow the main road towards Swan uphill from the village. After 20 mins. fork left up a narrow road.

Ownay Mc Rory Ó More. Rory was a local chieftain who was killed nearby in a skirmish on this hill in August 1600.

B. Fork left again along a lane. When the lane ends, continue on an old track to enter the forest. Reach a forest road and turn left.

C. Reach a tarmac road, turn left and then left again to return to Timahoe.

Fossy Graveyard. This lies on your left, cross the stile and walk through the field to visit.
