Forest & Road Walk


A longer half day walk that ascends via forest tracks up onto Fossy Mountain. Splendid views over the countryside from the crest. At the 3.5km point there is a link with the Swan Loop & the Slieve Margy Way.

A. Follow the directions in Walk 2 above.

B. Ignore the turn down the lane for Walk 2 and continue uphill. The road soon becomes a gravel track.

C. Reach a crossroads and turn left. Turn left again and follow the forest road to reach a sharp bend. Here you can detour through two gates to reach a viewing point.

White Bog. Near the viewing point is the White Bog where the oldest timber dwelling in Co.Laois was discovered in 1870 by men saving turf.

D. Rejoin Walk 2 and follow instructions above to return to Timahoe.
